How to make changes in exim.conf persistent

Hi everybody! I have made some custom changes in my exim.conf and to prevent it to be reverted after cPanel updates I've created exim.conf.buildtest file. But it seems that after some update I've lost my changes in exim.conf again. Could you please advice me how I would: 1) investigate what exactly happened (could not find any cPanel updates log) 2) ensure that exim.conf.buildtest is really working Thank! (I'm on Bluehost.)

  In WHM, you should be able to go to the Exim Configuration Manager -> Advanced Editor and make your changes there. If you don't see a setting, scroll down about 1/3rd to the "Add additional configuration setting" button. There's additional custom block boxes below that.
