backup retention

If I have cPanel backups set to once per week and the retain value set to 1 will this keep only one weekly backup in the /backup folder at any given time or will it keep 1 backup PLUS the next backup run?

  Hello :) The retention option controls how many backup archives are retained, so if you enter "1", then only one backup is available. Thank you.
