Old file versions reappearing

Hi, Quite new to chanel. I have been updating a website and all seemed fine until this week when files in the public_html folder randomly changed back to versions from may this year. This started with a redirect I had set up disappearing. Looking at file manager the haccess file changed back to the may version. I also tried updating the index.php file again it looks like the changes were saved and working. After a couple of hours though the file reverts to the may version. I have been in touch with my host who can't see a particular reason for this. I don't have any cron jobs running. When editing the index.php the permissions were 644. Has anyone had this happen and is there a solution? Many thanks in advance

  Hello :) Is it possible the account was restored from a previous version? For instance, are you able to find any files, directories, or emails stored on the server that were created recently? Thank you.

  Turns out there were two installations of wordpress. Removing one seems to have cleared the issue.
