Backup with SFTP location transport error
Hi,
I'm trying to setup offsite backups for my servers using the included backup configuration with an SFTP destination.
I've setup the same destination on three other servers with no issues, this fourth server is reporting the following error when I try to validate the backup destination:
Error: Validation for transport "Offsite" failed: no matching mac found: client hmac-md5,hmac-sha1,hmac-ripemd160,hmac-ripemd160@openssh.com,hmac-sha1-96,hmac-md5-96 server hmac-sha2-256,hmac-sha2-256-etm@openssh.com,hmac-sha2-512,hmac-sha2-512-etm@openssh.com,umac-128-etm@openssh.com,umac-128@openssh.com
Any idea what could be going wrong? All cPanel / WHM installations are on the same version/build. The only thing different is this server is running centOS 5.11 instead of 6.7, could that be enough to cause this?
Thanks,
Michael

not sure if related, i had problems connecting to ftp servers since 11.52, but turning on Home " Service Configuration " FTP Server Configuration > "Broken Clients Compatibility" fixed it 0 -

Hello :) Could you verify which version of cPanel is installed?New not sure if related, i had problems connecting to ftp servers since 11.52, but turning on
Could you elaborate on this statement. Are you referring to remote backup destinations or FTP in general? Thank you.0 -

11.52.0 (build 13)not sure if related, i had problems connecting to ftp servers since 11.52, but turning on Home " Service Configuration " FTP Server Configuration > "Broken Clients Compatibility" fixed it
Tried the compatibility setting. Same issue. Though I would expect this would be incoming connections, not outgoing. Thanks, Michael0 -
Any ideas? I haven't a clue what is causing the error. I guess I should open a ticket. 0 -
Could you open a support ticket using the link in my signature so we can take a closer look? You can post the ticket number here so we can update this thread with the outcome. Thank you. 0 -

Aha! The analyst was able to help me determine that the issue was related to CentOS 5.11 not using the same MACs, Kex and Ciphers in OpenSSH as CentOS 6.7. They were disabled on my offsite server. I enabled the ones CentOS 5.11 needed, restarted SSH and everything was working as expected. I also didn't realize the error was explaining this to me, just it wasn't laid out cleanly. Original Error (shown all on one big line): Error: Validation for transport "Offsite" failed: no matching mac found: client hmac-md5,hmac-sha1,hmac-ripemd160,hmac-ripemd160@openssh.com,hmac-sha1-96,hmac-md5-96 server hmac-sha2-256,hmac-sha2-256-etm@openssh.com,hmac-sha2-512,hmac-sha2-512-etm@openssh.com,umac-128-etm@openssh.com,umac-128@openssh.com
Had it been shown with something separating the "client" and "server" sections of the error it would have been clearer to me. Ultimate goal: Migrate accounts from server running old CentOS to newer version of CentOS. :) Best regards, Michael0 -
I am happy to see the issue is now resolved. Thank you for updating us with the outcome. 0
