Well, post and even before I get an answer it is solved. I was testing on another account and went to manage shell access and noticed that the account I've been using was in Jailshell. I move it to normal shell and su started working again. So either this account changed to jailshell for some unknown reason or jailshell is now having issues with su to root. Not sure which.

Hello :) Do you notice any messages in /var/log/secure when the login from jailed shell fails? Thank you.

A couple, the whole log as 5. I don't believe there was a block on the account. It is one I use all of the time and I could log into the account. I just couldn't SU.

It's normal for the login to fail if you are in a jailed shell environment. It's possible the value for the package assigned to the account changed from normal shell to jailed shell. Thank you.
