No "mailbox exceeded" message returned to sender
When quota is exceeded and an e-mail is sent to the mailbox, it only says:
Delivery to the following recipients failed.
email@example.com
As i recall, there was another message before that said something like, "mailbox exceeded".
In other words, when a sender gets a bounce-back, they don't know why it's coming back.
Settings:
- Bounce email for users over quota: On
- User mailbox is over-quota
- Account quota is not over-quota
Does anyone have any ideas on what else I can look at? The other posts here don't really address this issue.
Thanks.

Hello :) Please post the output from: grep "Mailbox quota exceeded" /etc/exim.conf
Thank you.0 -
data = :fail:Mailbox quota exceeded 0 -
The output suggests the bounce should include the message you are referring to. Have you found a corresponding entry in /var/log/exim_mainlog when this happens to verify the email is coming from your server? Thank you. 0 -
Looking at the message header, it says: Diagnostic-Code: smtp;550 Mailbox quota exceeded But the body just says: This is an automatically generated Delivery Status Notification. Delivery to the following recipients failed. xxx@xxx.com I guess the first question is whether this is normal behaviour of if it can be adjusted. If so, please let me know where. If not, then i'm not sure what to do. The error-message isn't descriptive enough to help the sender, and so the client complains. Thanks a lot. 0 -
Is "Send generic recipient failure messages" enabled under the "Mail" tab in "WHM >> Service Configuration >> Exim Configuration Manager"? Thank you. 0 -
"Send generic recipient failure message" = OFF 0 -
Could you open a support ticket using the link in my signature so we can take a closer look? You can post the ticket number here so we can update this thread with the outcome. Thank you. 0
