Migrate user passwords
We have just finished migrating all our accounts from an older Apache webserver to cPanel. We created new accounts for all our users, updated any of their config files to point to the new mysql server and updated all records. How can we migrate their old passwords? I have access to the old shadow file from the old server but I am unsure how to import that into cPanel. One other option would be to send a password reset link to all our customers for them to change their password but we have not found that option either. Any ideas?

Hello :) Could you verify which specific password you want your users to change? For instance, is it for the cPanel login itself? Thank you. 0 -
yes, their login into cPanel itself 0 -
Hello :) You can use the following option in Web Host Manager: "WHM Home >> Account Functions >> Force Password Change" It's documented at: Force Password Change - Documentation - cPanel Documentation Thank you. 0 -
That only forces them to reset their password after they login. I want to population their existing account with the old password. It would be nice if there was a function to update password from the encrypted password in a shadow file I may just have to set a generic password and send that to everyone, not ideal at all. 0 -
Hello :) There are no native options or utilities that will allow you to transfer the passwords from a non-cPanel server. Thank you. 0 -
Didnt think so and I don't see a way to email them a reset password link. I'm now creating each account a unique generic password and emailing it to them. That's the best I can come up with and to force a password reset for all accounts. Thanks for all the help. 0
