Wildcard SSL certificate on wildcard subdomain
I'm looking into buying a SSL certificate, and have two options:
1) use a multi domain certificate
2) use a wildcard certificate
My subdomain in CPanel is *.mydomain.com everything related to subdomain handling is being done in PHP.
The first option requires to have each domain added to the CPanel account, how about the second option?

Currently in cPanel, any certificate installed has to have a domain associated with it, due to the fact that cPanel uses domains in its configuration to build the httpd.conf. However, if you install the wildcard SSL through WHM and leave it as "*.domain.com", it should create a wildcard hostname entry in httpd.conf that will allow it to work on any subdomain of that domain, assuming of course you also have a wildcard DNS entry set up. A multi-domain certificate would behave identically to the concept of having a separate certificate for each domain, which would definitely require adding each domain to cPanel. 0 -
Hello :) In addition to the previous post, this document also helps to explain how wildcard SSL certificates work: SSL FAQ and Troubleshooting - Documentation - cPanel Documentation Thank you. 0
