beginners help with cpanel backup and pigz
Every day at around 10:30am on our server a cpanel backup/pigz process will start up on a random account. This will usually be the busiest time on our server for web traffic. Mysql processes queue will get backed up as this is happening, perhaps because there is a mysql dump that happens just before pigz? Websites will then get very slow and mysql could take hours or more to recover. We told pigz to only use 8 processes when running to reduce load. This does not help so far. Is there anything else we can do to mitigate the things that happen when the backup starts?

Hello :) [Edit - The referenced feature here is only available for statistics generation] Thank you. 0 -
Thats exactly what we needed! We were incorrectly advised by our hosting partner that this was not possible. Thank you. 0 -
Wait this screen says "Statistics" is that the same as the backup schedule as well? 0 -
Actually, the interface I referenced is in-fact for statistics only. While this feature is not available for backups, you can browse to the "Stats and Logs" tab in "WHM Home " Server Configuration " Tweak Settings" and modify the following option: "Extra CPUs for server load" Per it's description: The load average above the number of CPUs at which cpuwatch, cpanellogd, backups, and CPU stats consider the system to be in a critical load state. For example, a server with 4 physical CPUs and a value of 2 in this field will be considered "critical" in these cases once the load reaches 6. Thus, you can ensure backup generations are suspended when the load reaches a certain point. Thank you. 0
