Your previous attempt to change the hostname is still running

I attempted to change my hostname through whm, and it error stating it could not be completed. Since then, it has been stuck on "Your previous attempt to change the hostname is still running" I then attempted to rename the hostname through the script within /usr/local/cpanel/bin and received the following error: Changing hostname to hostname.server.com...Failed! Cannot set the hostname; there is already hostname change in progress. I have rebooted the server, and looked in the running processes, but I cannot see where this process is running, or how to kill it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. This is on a VM with full root access, logged into ssh and whm as root. Server: CENTOS 7.2 x86_64 WHM 54.0 (build 8)

  Hello :) To update, the user opened a support ticket and was advised to have their VPS hosting provider update the kernel on the VPS hardware node. The existing kernel appears outdated and is preventing the execution of the hostname utility. Thank you.
