Moving an account domain, what happens with emails, etc?
Hi there!
I have one client that wants to change his main domain1.com to another one domain2.com (when the "old" domain expires)
My idea was to create a parked domain2.com...
Create some emails@domain2.com... (so they can start using them)
A 301 redirection in domain1.com to domain2.com
A few autoresponders in emails@domain1.com informing about the future changes...
All this using the regular cpanel account
And... a day before the domain1.com expiration... delete all the emails@domain1.com, enter master WHM and change the domain account to domain2.com
Will this work ok?
After that, I will have domain2.com as main domain in the cpanel? and the emails@domain2.com will be there too?
Will I face any odd/bad issue?
:-/
Best regards!
And sorry for the bad english :)

Databases should be ok I think? as they use username as prefix, I will not change that... (sorry for the double post, the edit function thinks I am a spammer??) 0 -
Hello :) The method you described is mostly acceptable, however keep in mind that when you modify an account's domain name, it automatically modifies the existing email accounts to the new name. Thus, you may want to wait until after changing the domain name before adding new email accounts. Thank you. 0 -
Thanks Michael! BTW, what will happen if I create the emails (using the parked domain domain), and then change the domain in WHM? it will overwrite the created emails when "moving" the old emails to the new one? (1) I hope you understand what I mean, lol... (1) in this case I can create a few email redirections, so both emails will have the same content... and finally the new one will be overwrited by the old ones? 0 -

Email accounts for the domain name you modified are updated to the new domain name. Thus, you should backup your email data before modifying the domain name if you want to restore it later on. The "Backup Wizard" option in cPanel will allow you to generate a full backup archive of the account. Thank you.0
