Automatic Backup
Hi, how come CPanel (CPanel 54.0 Build 17) doesn't have the option to backup for example; an entire server either on a hourly, daily or weekly basis ? One must always manually trigger the backup.

sure it does new backup "Scheduling and Retention' legacy backup "Backup Interval" note: cpanel has never had an hourly function just FYI 0 -
I searched within Backup & Backup Wizard and none of those options exist ? 0 -
Those options mentioned are found in WHM. Assuming by your forum profile that you're a Website Owner without root access, they wouldn't be available to you. The Server Administrator, root user, on a server sets backup options to fit his servers needs. For instance if you had dozens of Website Owners automating backups when it was a good time for them, not the server load, the server would be under constant load for all users on it. The Server Administrator knows when the best time to run backups is and sets up automation for it accordingly, via WHM Backup options. 0 -
You don't mean WHMCS ? If I don't have root WHM access then the Server Administrator must open access based on server load, correct ? 0 -
No, WHMCS is another product. I don't understand the rest of your question. The Server Admin normally sets backups to late night when load is lowest. cPanel defaults to late night (2AM, IIRC) for Backups. 0 -
The Server Admin does system wide backups; not individual backups that is up the the user, and as I user I don't have the option to which was mentioned; Scheduling and Retention. I assume the Server Admin must give me such access ? 0 -
Yes, if they wanted to give you root access. Backing up the account as an end user is always a good idea. But there is no way to automate that from within your cPanel. 0 -
It sounds as if you are saying that unless the root Administrator open access to, Scheduling and Retention; I'm stuck with manual back up of my account, is it a security risk to give individuals access to the Scheduling and Retention backup option, or it simply has to be turned on for the account ? 0 -
It cannot be enabled for an account. Server Administrator with root access manages this. I'm stuck with manual back up of my account
Correct. And we assume your Hosting Provider runs backups regularly for disaster recovery.0 -
Since I don't have access to Scheduling and Retention; is there another method you know of that I can do a scheduling and retention backup of my account and all directories similar to that of the manual backup method in cPanel ? 0 -
No, as I mentioned: Backing up the account as an end user is always a good idea. But there is no way to automate that from within your cPanel.
