Upgrading the system kernel with the upcp script?

If I run /usr/local/cpanel/scripts/upcp on the command line, will it upgrade the kernel (after reboot) if the update is available? Or do I need to run yum update specifically to upgrade the kernel?

  Hello, We exclude kernel updates from our nightly maintenance. You'll need to upgrade the kernel via a manual run of "yum update".
