Swap to a VPS, scaleable so start small having only 2 wordpress sites, and the licence for cpanel vps is a lot cheaper, more than half the price of a dedicated licence. Shop around for good deals on cpanel licences, I won't put the link here as I know cpanel sell licences direct, but there are a few resellers out there with good prices.

Thanks Dazeck, I've emailed a few hosts this morning to see what they suggest..

The "300 is just for the cPanel licence that's on top of the colo hosting fees that are just over double that a year. So one third of my costs for the past five years has been purely for a server control panel which looking at it now is excessively high. It would seem that cPanel is setup for hosting providers / resellers who can pass the cost on and not for individuals who run their own servers. I'm sure there would be plenty of other individuals who have their own server and would prefer cPanel over other control panels options if the cost wasn't so ridiculously high.

you could shop around for a external licensee ( maybe you have one now) but your only going to save a few dollars from what your paying now

I agree with dazeck. If you must have root access, expect to pay around US$240/year for a good VPS and $15/month for CPanel. (Don't go for the cheapest or "outright" VPSs as some literally have no uptime.) Have been doing that for 2 years now and am very happy with the result. :-D

Hello :) I've moved these posts to a separate thread, as it's unrelated to the previous thread's topic about what happens to the cPanel installation after a license expires. Thanks!
