Install errors - not terribly user friendly
2016-06-15 07:45:14 541 (ERROR): The installation process found evidence that MySQL or MariaDB was installed on this server.
2016-06-15 07:45:14 542 (FATAL): You must install cPanel & WHM on a clean server.
It would really be quite helpful if instead of throwing generic errors out, this installer actually said what was wrong. -- no MySQL installed on the server -- no MariaDB on the server (it was removed) -- no http on the server (again, removed) In this specific case, the problem was the mysql directory (since removed), but the point is that most people cannot understand this. The server itself was clean, freshly installed, went with LAMP rather than base distro, as the povider's base distro image appears to be corrupted. Please, be a bit more user friendly. Not everyone can figure out what was wrong here. Tell the user, specifically what's wrong, don't just throw generics.

Hello, I suggest opening a feature request for more verbose logging during the installation process via: Submit A Feature Request This could apply to the existence of the MySQL data directory, or other error messages reported during the installation process. Thank you. 0 -
Hello, Good news, internal case CPANEL-7463 is now open to improve the output from the cPanel installer when the /var/lib/mysql directory exists and is not empty. There's currently no specific time frame available on when we may see this change implemented, but I will update this thread with more information as it becomes available. Note that empty /var/lib/mysql directories are permitted as of version 00052 of our installer to account for systems that use a custom mount point for the MySQL data directory: Installer Change Log - Documentation - cPanel Documentation Thank you. 0 -
