Code editor slow to open PHP files

Running cpanel 11.52.6 (build 1) on a Linux system hosted by GoDaddy. When I open up any moderately sized php file with code editor (let's say 200+ lines of code) it takes over 30 seconds to load into the editor. It gets progressively worse the larger the file. If the file is over 500 LOC, then it never seems to load. Usually I see a smaller window of the code as it opens which then expands when all of the code is loaded. I get the same results whether on a pentium PC or a Intel i5 laptop I have this issue with Chrome and Firefox. The PC has a decent amount of memory and does not seem to be running out. Ideas? Setting that should be changed? Thanks.
