Should Hostname be Resolvable?
Hi folks,
I went into WHM > Networking Setup > Change Hostname and entered in a 'random' hostname, as per the suggestions. Should I be able to reach my new hostname in a web browser?
Please note that I do not own secureserver.net (It belongs to GoDaddy Inc). My original hostname was sXXX-XXX-XX-XXX.secureserver.net where the X's represent the server IP.

Hello, You will need to use a domain name that you own and have the ability to change the name servers on as your server's hostname. For example: server.domain-you-control.tld
There's a useful guide on setting up name servers at: [Tutorial] Nameserver configuration on cPanel servers Otherwise, you must use the original hostname issued by your hosting provider, or contact your provider to request a new hostname with a domain name under their control. Thank you.0 -
Thanks Michael - Appreciate the confirmation. I think my misconception was that I should have been able to resolve the hostname that my VPS 'defaulted' but that makes a lot of sense. Seems that without a domain, IP is the only management address I'll be able to use :) 0 -
