Contact manager root email address reverts after reboot

Hi, I'm currently configuring a new cPanel server, but the email destination in the contact manager ( same as "Enter one or more email addresses to contact in case a problem arises with this server." from WHM >> Basic cPanel & WHM Setup ) reverts to root@hostname after a reboot. Also any second email address (specification states "one or more") is removed. On other cPanel installations I was able to change this. The host claims that the installation is vanilla. Any ideas why a reboot resets the email address? Thanks

  Hello, Is this a VPS account? If so, it's possible this is happening as part of the virtualization software utilized on the hardware node. Could you run the following command and let us know the output?
  grep '' /etc/redhat-release /usr/local/cpanel/version /var/cpanel/envtype

  Our assumption of the host overwriting the file was denied by our VPS host, so we posted this on the forum here. After some more communication, they ultimately admitted it was indeed a fault in their configuration. Case closed. ;)
