SpamAssassin Delays Sending Email

I am sending emails using php and there is a delay in the sending of the emails. The form "hangs" for about 20 seconds and then it sends the email. If I disable SpamAssassin, poof! the emails get delivered immediately. In the SpamAssassin configuration I added the domain name and user ID of the sender and the return path but it hasn't helped. Any suggestions?

  Hello, This is by design if your hosting provider has enabled outbound SpamAssassin filtering. As of cPanel version 58, the system now performs spam filter scans in the background for email that a user or script pipes to sendmail or Exim. This prevents PHP timeouts when a script sends mail. Thank you.
