Apache Refuses to Start

Hello, Apache crashed on our dedicated server last night and I can't get it to restart. After reading through various forums here and elsewhere it seems that we've hit some kind of a limit for the open logs apache can handle due to the volume of vhosts on the server. The error I'm pulling in the logs is: "Too many open files: AH00649: could not open transfer log file" I've tried increasing the ulimit and placing it in various configuration files on the server but can't seem to get this resolved. Does anyone else have experience with this issue?

  Hi, Is this for EA3 or EA4? If it's for EA4, we recently updated apachectl to include the ulimit increases that we had present in EA3, and that hit our mirrors yesterday. Please check to make sure your packages are up to date via 'yum update' If it's EA3, then the ulimit adjustments are already present in the init files, and should be used at startup. It's possible that either way, the limits being set in the init scripts are not high enough for your system, and may need a manual adjustment to be increased.

  It's EA4, I managed to resolve this. I edited /usr/sbin/apachectl and bumped "MAX_FD_LIMIT" a bit. Will this change make it through updates from cPanel?

  Hello, cPanel updates won't overwrite this file unless there's an update to the ea-apache24 package that's performed as part of the "Operating System Package Updates" phase. Thank you.
