Directories with these names are not allowed in Maildir
Hi,
Right now, when someone try to create an email filter, cPanel always show error notification.
The condition: The email account was transferred from another non cPanel server using imapsync. The folders came with the email account. The transfer itself was successfully finished without any error. What should we do? I see nothing wrong with the steps taken. Picture is in the attachment.

Hello @Influencer, You can browse to the mail directory for that email account and see a list of directories via the following commands: cd /home/$username/mail/$domain/$email-account ls -al
Do any directories exist with these names [list,and,_*]? Thank you.0 -
Hello, I have checked the mail folder but I can't find any of the folders in the attachment and I can't find folders with either list,and,_* I also have checked another email and everything seems okay (those emails does not have imported folders). Thanks 0 -
Is it possible to reindex all folder structure or recreate all of them? EDIT: I have tried to delete the folders and recreate them but cPanel still won't let me create an email filter. EDIT 2: Does the ID of the email matter? The email ID is NEW, and there is also a folder NEW inside mail directory. Will this trigger a conflict? 0 -
Hello, You can remove the Dovecot index files via the following command: /scripts/remove_dovecot_index_files --verbose --user $cpusername
The index files are then rebuilt upon the next login to the associated email account. Could you open a support ticket using the link in my signature so we can take a closer look if this doesn't help? You can post the ticket number here and we can update this thread with the outcome. Otherwise, if you don't have root access to the system to open a support ticket, you can report this issue to your web hosting provider and they can open a ticket with us on your behalf if nessisary. Thank you.0 -
Hello, I think I found the problem. Inside mail directory, /home/$username/mail/$domain/$email-accountl
There are three folders: CUR NEW TMP So, whenever I created an account with these IDs:cur@domain.com / new@domain.com / tmp@domain.com
the problem will arise. What should we do then? Is this problem related to cPanel or related to Dovecot? I will contact my server administrator to open a ticket on behalf of my problem too. Thanks0 -
Hello? Any progress on this? I found a little awkward that in different cPanel build, different error notification: For the same ID (NEW@domain.tld): Build 56: Directories with these names are not allowed in Maildir directories: cur, new, and tmp.
- Removed - Build 60:Directories with these names are not allowed in Maildir directories: [list,and,_*].
- Removed - Any chance in the future that this small bug can be fixed? Right now my solution is by using Webmail rule filtering. FYI, I have no single problem when using Kloxo-MR+Dovecot (the free hosting platform). I wonder why cPanel has the problem and they are not.0 -
I will contact my server administrator to open a ticket on behalf of my problem too.
Were you able to open a support ticket so we can take a closer look at the issue? If so, please let us know the ticket number and we can update this thread with the outcome. Thank you.0 -
