Backup transport errors

A weekly backup returned errors today which have us confused: Unable to send "/home/backup/2017-01-02/accounts/account_name.tar.gz" to destination bla bla
Notice the date? its last weeks whereas todays backup date is 2017-01-09. Why is it trying to send last weeks weekly backup instead of todays?

  Hello, Do you have weekly backups configured to retain multiple copies? What days are weekly backups scheduled to run on this system? Thank you.

  Nope, weekly backups are configured to only retain one copy. Runs every Monday. This error only started happening last two weeks.

  We were able to fix this ourselves by simply disabling the backup and re-enabling with the same configuration.
