Incremental Backups
Hi guys
Currently we use compressed backups and weekly backups. However we notice this is creates some strain on servers even though we use 6 x SSD disks in raid 10 and 12 core cpus with 64GB ram.
I would like to switch to incremental but have always been scared about using it as I remembered people mentioned it was buggy before.
Is it better now. Currently we get 2 - 4 weekly backup files for each customer to restore. If we create incremental and enable Daily and Weekly and Monthly which will backup to the same NFS share how will it be backing up the files?
What will be available to restore?
PS: Not worried about full server restores as I do full server backups anyway using other software as we use proxmox.

It will perform backup on a daily basis, it will then sync this daily back to the weekly backup at the end of the week, and the weekly backup will be override each week with the new daily backup. The weekly backup will then sync into the monthly backup at the end of the month. At the end of the month, you will be left with 3 copies, each of daily, weekly, and monthly.. However, with cPanel backup configuration, you can use more backup retention policies. You are on a RAID system, so if you do a compressed backup, it will do more writing on the disk, as with this RAID configuration, you may get sloppy performance when the data is being written on the disks.0 -
I'm not sure if this will help you, but just in case... I'm running 2xSSD's in each box, set cPanel Backups to run Incremental 3 nights per week, NOT compressed, full system files / databases / user accounts for comprehensive, set so that the main drive backs-up to the secondary drive mounted as /backup, and for example - my servers that have approx 200 user accounts and 500GB of user data stored - complete entire backup process in 17 minutes, barely hitting a load of 3.0 during the process. (However, each box has Dual E5-2620v3 CPU's and 64GB RAM, so along with the backup SSD being in the same box with the main SSD, I'm sure that all has some influence on how fast & effortlessly the boxes are completely incremental non-compressed full backups). 0 -
Hello, In addition to the previous responses, feel free to let us know if you encounter any issues with incremental backups. Also, let us know if there's a specific bug you've read about and would like us to check on the status of. Thank you. 0
