SFTP Using Domain Not Working
I have a client who is trying to use SFTP. FTP works, but using the same login with SFTP authentication fails. He has a Cpanel SSL certificate on the domain through AutoSSL and sshd_config is set up to allow sftp:
Subsystem sftp /usr/libexec/openssh/sftp-server
/etc/ssh/sshd_config
If I switch to the server name instead of the domain name, it works. So, that's an easy workaround. But I am curious why using the domain domain for the server name doesn't work.

Is he logging in with his cPanel username, or an addon FTP account? 0 -
He was using his Cpanel login. He created an add on FTP account and I tried using that one as a test and couldn't login using SFTP. 0 -
SFTP is not possible for addon FTP accounts unfortunately. There's an existing Feature Request for this here if you'd like to vote on it: SFTP access for virtual FTP users 0 -
My mistake. I was connecting to the add on FTP account via FTP not SFTP. However, the question still remains. If I SFTP for the cpanel user, it works. But I have to use the server name for the host and not the user's domain. 0 -
The docs should be helpful: How to Configure Your SFTP Client - cPanel Knowledge Base - cPanel Documentation 0 -
The client did finally get it to work after I sent him very specific settings, screen shots, the link to the documentation, etc. And I did vote up the feature request. Thank for the link. 0 -
Good news then. Thanks for updating the thread. 0
