Reset WHM password from command line
I recently "inherited" a server at my new job. The previous guy didn't leave the password for WHM/cPanel. It's hosted on Rackspace so I can set the "root" password myself, but it doesn't seem to work from the CPanel login page. So I have a couple "noob" questions:
1. Is the root password supposed to work for WHM login?
2. Is the root password supposed to work for cPanel login?
3. If not 1 and 2, how can I change the WHM/cPanel passwords?

UPDATE: It looks like the new root password is working to login to WHM (at :2087) but not cPanel (at :2083). I don't how to get into cPanel. 0 -
Figured it out (I think). I just need to go to List Accounts > and select the cpanel option next to the server I wanted. I'm still not sure what the password is, but I guess WHM knows it and I'm able to log in that way to cPanel without having to enter it. 0 -

Hello, Passwords aren't stored in plaintext, but you can change account passwords from Web Host Manager: Password Modification - Documentation - cPanel Documentation You may also find this thread helpful: SOLVED - cPanel client can see all other users Thank you.0
