I only use forwarders and SMTP - Can I disable IMAP/POP3?

I run a VPS with little memory and I'm trying to save every possible small bit of memory in order to run a big database. I have lots of forwarders configured, and everyone uses Gmail to access their (forwarded) mail. They also send email through Gmail with SMTP (so their Gmail address doesn't show up on the recipient) My question is, since noone uses IMAP/POP3 access and webmail on the server, If I disable those two services on Cpanel, will the forwarders and SMTP keep working?

  • Log into WHM
  • Up in the top-left find box, type in mailserver. Then click on Mailserver Configuration.
  • Beside Protocols Enabled, un-check both POP3D, POP3DSSL, IMAPD and IMAPDsSL Then scroll to the bottom of the page and click on Save.

  Hello, Yes, you can disable "IMAP Server" and "POP3 Server" via "WHM >> Service Manager". Forwarders will still function, and users will still be able to send email as long as you leave "Exim Mail Server" and "LMTP Server" enabled. Thank you.
