DNS Zones if you don't run a DNS Server?

Hi guys, I've copied all the config from my cPanel DNS Zones page into my domain provider's "Advanced DNS" control panel and things work fine but do those records in cPanel do anything if thats how I have it all set up? I'm having trouble with "550 No User Here" response when i email the accountname@domain.tld[/EMAIL] email, which i thought would go into a catch-all inbox somewhere? Just trying to rule the cPanel DNS Zones out of the equation..

  If you want to use accountname@ as an email address, you'll have to create the email account accountname@.

  Thanks Infopro. Silly me, I just realised if I want a catch-all to the default address I need to do it under cPanel > Default Address. Didn't realise I had to set it there after I changed the setting in Tweak Settings but that's not for existing accounts. I think I'm sorted! Thanks again

  Oh, one last question! If you don't have BIND or another DNS server configured in WHM (in fact, I have it set to Disabled because I only have one site and I use the registrar's DNS tool), the entire "DNS Functions" section in WHM doesn't do anything, right? And additionally, any DNS settings set/added via the user cPanel does nothing also, yeah? (not that the user would know there's no DNS server running locally)

  That's correct. Any DNS changes made on the cPanel server have no effect on the actual DNS since it's hosted elsewhere.

  That's also correct. Any DNS changes are saved to the local zone file, but it doesn't have any effect on the actual DNS since that's handled externally. You will still see DNS zones in /var/named/ when the name server is disabled, however the name server is not running locally so no additional resources are utilized. The existence of the zones allows for the generation of entries for records that relate to features such as SPF or DKIM (Not active entries, but it shows you which entries to manually add to your own DNS server). The local DNS zones are also useful if you ever plan to switch back to a local name server, or decide to transfer the accounts to another server. Thank you.
