Exim retry timeout exceeded
Hello,
In one of my servers, I'm facing the following Problem.
Once per week, one of our customers starts facing the following error when someone sends an email:
retry timeout exceeded
The line I've found in the exim_mainlog is the following
017-03-02 11:51:40 1cjS4y-003AU0-EN == example@expampledomain.com R=virtual_user T=dovecot_virtual_delivery defer (13): Permission denied: failed to chdir to /home/example.
After a little research, I've figured it out, it was related to a permission issue.
Once I've fixed them, the customer, started receiving again their emails.
But again, a couple of days later, I face the same problem, only with the same customer.
I discard the fact that someone can be changing things through FTP (I've checked out the FTP logs).
The Cpanel Version I'm using is
WHM 62.0 (build 15)
Cloudlinux 6.8.
Could you give me any suggestions?-

Hello, Could you verify what the ownership and permission values are changed to on the /home/$user directory? Are there any scripts or plugins installed on the system that could be changing the permission values? Thank you. 0 -
Hello Michael, I've verified that permissions were changed (as well as ownership). Regarding the scripts or plugins installed, I'm going to make a deeper check.. 0 -
Hello, You may also find this URL helpful if you want to investigate what's changing a file or directory: Auditd - auditctl rule to monitor dir only (not all sub dir and files etc..) Thank you. 0
