Just found out under Service Manager: cpanel-dovecot-solr - It's some sort of indexing service for dovecot. Not needed, therefore removed.

From the Release notes page: cPanel Inc. | cPanel & WHM 64 Fast Email Searching (IMAP Full Text Search) Full-Text Search Indexing (powered by Solr) provides fast search capabilities for IMAP mailboxes. Users of iOS devices, Microsoft" Outlook", SquirrelMail, Horde, Roundcube, and Mozilla" Thunderbird will notice significantly improved search speed and convenience.
On first login to WebHost Manager after updating you'll be notified of new Features and given the option (before getting access to WHM) to enable or not. There's several other threads related to Solr on the forums right now you might take a look at.

Documentation is quite thin on this feature.

    • Are there indexation controls?
    • Commands?
    • Can we view usage etc?
    • Are there logs?
    Thanks!

Just so you know, based on my experience with a server that just updated to 64, chkservd gets updated to think its supposed to restart it, which it does, and then solr shuts down because you haven't logged into WHM yet. So you get flooded with alerts. Not until you log into WHM does it fix the loop, but even then WHM only shows the new incremental backup feature. Nothing about solr. There isn't something right about this process. Hal

This is addressed with internal case CPANEL-12865: Error with cpanel_dovecot_solr_maintenance cron Thank you.

We found since installing this plugin we had complaints from some customers with large volumes of mail saying they could no longer search their inboxes past a few days - but could search their sent and other folders. One client can't search his inbox past 15th April in one account and in other accounts it won't search the inbox at all. So I've removed the plugin but it has not fixed the problem. I'd recommend that you don't install this. I'll need to raise a ticket with cpanel to try and fix this.

I don't generally like Java, and I was skeptical about this plug-in when it appeared on the scene, but I thought I'd give it a try. After munching away at my SQL resources for several hours, it finally seemed to settle down, and I have some clients with Gbs of mail going back to 2004 who have expressed pleasure in the improved search facilities. I suspect busier servers, or servers with more limited resource or with clients that have more mail than ours, may have issues with this plugin until it has had time to index all the emails. I must admit to only have tried it on maildir and I have no idea how well it may work with mdbox, nor any indication as to what the resource usage might be. I haven't seen any issues with mail not being searchable past a certain date, nor of any mail folders being excluded. This is on a dedicated server with 8 cores of CPU (dual Xeon) and 8Gb ram running cloudlinux with kernelcare, and cPanel 64.0.22

I've just re-installed the plugin on the affected servers and bingo - it's working now.

Reviving an old threat, but... Is it worth to install this plugin or not? Latest Version 8.2.0-2.2 as Jul/1/2020 Regards, Sergio
