Assuming you're generating a Full Website Backup from in your cPanel, depending on that servers resources, it could take a while. Yes, you can close your browser, cPanel should email you when it completes, or fails if it does. You should be able to use that Full Website Backup to restore the full account on the new server, intact, as it is on the old server at the time you took the backup with the help of your new Hosting Provider.

thanks a lot for your quick reply. I chose to not be emailed when the backup is done (I thought it would take 2 minutes, so the email is not necessary!) where I can find the backup file when it's done?

If its completed, it'll be listed on that page where you initiated the backup as a link to download. You can also find it in the root directory of your account via cPanel File Manager. If its completed and available, check the time stamp on the file to see how long ago it completed. :)

    Happy to help. :)

Hi Infopro, I thought I'd piggyback on this tread with my question(s)... I initiated a full cPanel backup about twelve hours ago. I left the browser/screen open, and it still shows the text: "Full Backup in Progress " Per your request, no notification will be sent upon backup completion." 1) Would it be ok to log back into cPanel to see if the backup is finished?; or 2) Should I wait for this screen to notify me of the finished backup? Thank you so much.

You can close the browser and you can revisit that page again later to check for the download to be listed there if it's completed, yes sure.
