Very slow backup on WHM 64.0 (build 24)

We have recently been experiencing very slow incremental backup (started around the 22nd of May). It seems to have coincided with the time when Legacy Backup was removed. WHM 64.0 (build 24), Dual Processor with 12-Cores total, CloudLinux, 32GB RAM CentOS 7.1 x64, Kernel 3.10.0-427.36.1.lve1.4.47.el7.x86_64 These are SATA 7200rpm hard drives. They used to complete full backup of the server (500GB) in about 4 hours. We did a test today of the disk transfer speed while cPanel incremental backup was running and got 80MB/sec. We also checked the disks and found no issues. We also checked /etc/limit.conf and all entries are commented with '#' The server is moderately utilized, however, it has always been like that and backup was fine. Copying files from /home to /backup works quick at 80MB/sec like reported earlier. Our backup configs are: - Incremental to local disk - Retention Daily 1 - Retention Weekly 1 - No other remote or special configs at this time. - Largest account is 100GB in size Any other suggestion or recommendation?
