Michael-- The problem has changed in terms of the bounce we receive. It is now: Remote Server returned '< #5.0.0>' This comes only from automated Wordpress emails sent to manager@mydomain.com. The manager can still receive regular (non-Wordpress automated) emails at this address. My first thought is to create a user for manager in cPanel. My concern is that manager@mydomain.com is separately hosted, and I don't want to create a conflict with that. Any help would be appreciated.

Further on this issue. We changed the domain in the cPanel account email information to email.mydomain.com. Overnight, a new user registered and that spawned an email to the site owner. No bounce message although I did see a "no configured DNS resolvers" warning from cPanel. I would like to think we are closing in on a resolution.
