can send emails, cannot receive, always in progress.
cPanel team,
Last week I changed the hostname and I havent been able to send emails ever since... in the beginning I wasnt able to send nor receive, then I changed the hostname back to what it was and reset exim to its default config and then i was able to receive, now I cannot send, all emails say in progress or accepted but nothing arrives to the recipient.
I already forced cpanel update, twice.
I was trying to find a default exim file because even after resetting mine to default it doesnt seem to work. I followed this thread SOLVED - Can't send or receive emails but cant find a way to do what they say at the end. "To update, it looks like this issue stemmed from the use of the nosuid mount option on the /usr partition. This mount option prevents Exim from working properly."
Your help is appreciated.
Thanks.
p.s. I already submitted a ticket (8783081) but apparently my server has more issues than a teenager... and its giving so many errors that I cant grant access because of an API failure, I've already followed the documention provided to fix this error but cant make visudo to run properly either.

Hello, I see we are working with you to obtain access to the affected server and investigate the issue. I'll monitor the support ticket and update this thread with the outcome once it's complete. Thanks!0 -
Michael, Thx, looking forward to it. 0 -
hello again, got any news on this? is it because of nosuid? Thanks so much. 0 -
Hello, To update, it looks like this issue was due to the provider blocking outgoing traffic over port 25, leading to failures with sending after the Exim configuration was reset (GoDaddy configures Exim with relay servers configured for sending). The following GoDaddy links should help anyone else facing the same issue: Why SMTP port is not working on Cloud Servers - GoDaddy Community Find your email relay server VPS & Dedicated Servers (Hosting Control Center) - GoDaddy Help US Thank you. 0 -
Update... this was not the case, it cant be GD and Ill tell you why... I moved everything to another server and formatted mine after the server was killed and rebuilt, everything worked again, so I changed the hostname to something else other than the default and the email issues arised again... so this is not GD blocking anything, I never called them to ask for any unblocking... on the new server (hosted at HG) i did the same hostname thing change and it also failed... so its definitely cPanel, but when I created the ticket they did little to no help at all and blamed on the actual hosting provider and obviously closed the ticket. 0 -
Hello, Did you check with your new provider to verify they do not restrict outgoing connections over port 25? Thank you. 0 -
did you read what I typed? after rebuilding the server everything works fine, changing the hostname (once the server was freshly reinstalled) brings the error again, how can the the hosting provider block the port 25 in the middle of the process and know exactly when to do it to drive me nuts? again... its cPanel, not the provider, I tested this with 2 different providers... they cant communicate and block the port at the same time (after changing the hostname) just to make me mad, can they? 0 -
Hello, Do you notice any particular error messages in /var/log/exim_mainlog or /var/log/exim_paniclog when attempting to send an email after changing the hostname? Are you able to reproduce the issue when sending trough multiple methods (e.g. through webmail and a desktop email client) and to different remote email addresses? Thank you. 0 -
All, I was able to fix this issue, sadly I spent months and months with misleading answers and whats worse the team at cpanel did next to nothing to help me thru this ordeal. I repeatedly ask the team thru email to send me a config of exim (the one that the system created with a brand new built (or rebuilt) but they didn't. They said it was an ISP issue, a hosting (GoDaddy) issue and the fact that I had nothing under smarthost in the exim config (when I clearly remember I've never had nothing) etc..etc.. at the end I found the solution to this problem... so just for all you users out there let me explain to you what happened.... 1. (Server 1) I was sending/receiving emails just fine 2. (Server 1) I had the awesome idea of changing the hostname for my server (just because I wanted it to be other than ip-XXXX, etc) 3. (Server 1) There are no warning signs anywhere telling you that you're messing with anything this serious, so I did change the hostname 4. (Server 1) I was not able to send nor receive emails 5. (Server 1) I changed the hostname back to what it was and I was able to receive, NOT send 6. (Server 1) Came here to ask for help and browsed the internet for months to no avail. 7. (Server 2) Tired of finding no answers....I had to get a new VPS 8. (Server 2) Built Server, created an account, tested emails, ok 9. (Server 2) Changed the hostname 10. (Server 2) Tested emails, not ok 11. (Server 2) Destroyed & Rebuilt Server, changed hostname before creating an account 12. (Server 2) Account has an error with DNS zone, that needs to be edited manually 13. (Server 2) Destroyed & Rebuilt Server, set the hostname as desired before rebuilding 14. (Server 2) Created the account, DNS ok, tested emails ok! 15. (Server 2) Exported exim config file 16. (Server 1) Imported exim config file 17. (Server 1) Tested incoming/outgoing mails, all ok! There was nothing under smarthost in the exim configuration, its simply the default configuration that I believe most of us using cPanel have, what's really frustating is that I requested this file several times and them being the owners of the product didnt know this and were clueless about the whole issue... do I need to pay for cPanel premium support to get these answers? is that it??? Anyway, dont get me wrong, I love cPanel, I've been a user for the past 10 years, I guess a little more training for the support team would come handy. Unfortunately I cannot upload the exim config file because of the restrictions of this forum, so if you need it for your own server let me know and I can email it to you, this file is something cPanel should make available for everybody. 0 -

Was this with cPanel Technical Support?Unfortunately I cannot upload the exim config file because of the restrictions of this forum
Why would anyone need that? You can reset this right from within WebHost Manager. 493590 -
1. Was this with cPanel Technical Support? Yes 2. Why would anyone need that? You can reset this right from within WebHost Manager. You might've not read the entire thread, but I did this millions of times it didnt work, and support people even said it wouldn't help, they blamed it on the hosting provider... 0 -
I did read the entire ticket after posting. Thank you for updating the thread to let us know you got it going. 0
