Changing SMS notification content

I'd like to be able to edit the format of the SMS server notification messages I get. As it is, they come in with a ton of useless info, including incorrectly-encoded characters. They are typically over a page in size to simply let me know that a process failed to restart or something. Is there any way I can go in and trim the content down to a single line of useful information? thanks
