Updating rsyslogd to 8.x
Has anybody had experience updating rsyslogd 5.x to more recent versions 8.x or could provide some hints on doing so and whether it could damage or interrupt any WHM services?
Latest version from yum is 7.4 but I really need 8.20 or above due to important bug fix in rsyslog-elasticsearch
WHM 64.0, CENTOS 6.9
# rsyslogd -v
rsyslogd 5.8.10
# yum search rsyslog | grep Enhanced
rsyslog.x86_64 : Enhanced system logging and kernel message trapping daemons
rsyslog7.x86_64 : Enhanced system logging and kernel message trapping daemon
# yum info rsyslog7 | grep Version
Version : 7.4.10

Hello, The rsyslog RPM is part of your operating system and isn't an application that cPanel publishes or controls. Manually installing a version outside of what your operating system provides is unsupported. I recommend posting to the CentOS forums for help manually installing a newer version on CentOS 6: CentOS 6 - General Support - CentOS Thank you. 0 -
Hi @cPanelMichael Thanks for the reply and confirming that CPanel/WHM hasn't got a dependency on rsyslogd Best Regards 0 -
Hello, Keep in mind that while cPanel does not provide the rsyslog package, it does interact with the rsyslog service (e.g. with Chkservd/Service Manager). Since we do not test the product with custom rsyslog versions, it's possible using a custom version can lead to unsupported issues related to how cPanel interacts with the service. Thank you. 0
