Upgrade from 5.5 to 5.6 slowed PHP script WAY down.

Did the upgrade from 5.5 to 5.6 and my DB update program runs for 2:40 where it ran for 1:30 before. I just got this new VPS at Media Temple and am thinking of Reverting and starting from scratch, since there is no safe way to go back to 5.5. Going to re-import the DB and see if it's still slower. Any suggestions on making it fast/faster? That is a HUGE increase in processing time........lol...... Unless I didn't do something....update settings or whatever... z
