Why is the server assuming I will want to use mail.domain?
Hi.
Why is it that, when I add a new account (and thus, domain) to the server, that it automatically assumes I will want to use mail.domain.tld? I have disabled all features pertaining to email and won't use email at all on the server, ever.
This isn't a big issue of course as long as it stays hidden, but as soon as I go to generate a certificate through Let's Encrypt (or cPanel/Comodo for that matter), I end up with lots of "WARN The domain "mail.domain.tld" failed domain control validation", which I don't want.

Hello, It's part of the AutoSSL and Domain TLS functionality: What is Domain TLS - cPanel Knowledge Base - cPanel Documentation In cPanel version 66, you can now exclude subdomains such as "mail.domain.tld" from AutoSSL using the SSL/TLS Status option in cPanel: SSL TLS Status - Version 66 Documentation - cPanel Documentation Thank you. 0 -
Ok yea that's within each account, but I wanna remove those entries (that will never be used on this server, ever) from all accounts. Is that not possible? And if not, why are these standard? To me it makes no sense that they are since no setup is like any other. 0 -
Hello, The use of the "mail" alias for all domain names is standard as of cPanel version 60. Here's the corresponding entry in the cPanel 60 Release Notes that explains the purpose of this: Change in mail. alias behavior for Apache server The system now automatically creates an Apache server alias for the mail. subdomain for each domain, parked domain, and addon domain (but not subdomains). This allows the mail alias to appear in the same virtual host as the parent domain. We made this change in order to simplify Mail SNI and SSL certificate management and reduce unnecessary mail client warnings. For example, Apache will now respond to mail.example.com as an alias for example.com. However, Apache will not automatically respond to mail.subdomain.example.com as an alias for the subdomain.example.com subdomains.
If you'd like to see the exclusion handled separately (e.g. globally instead of per domain name), then I encourage you to add feedback to the following feature request: AutoSSL: Prevent specific domains from being issued free SSL certificates Thank you.0 -
Ok I understand. I'll give some feedback :) 0
