Safely update kernel through yum concerns

An admin on Sunday had told me it was because there was not enough space. But I had 10-12 GB of free space at the time. I immediately bought another 60GB but I still have no reason to be sure that was the problem. No later admins agreed with it.

Are you using a virtual server? Where did you look for information about free space? Buying additional space might be not solving the free space issues. It depends on the partitions. The separate boot partition might be full from older kernels. Not sure if buying additional space includes a resize of partitions in your case. Take a look at this thread: Boot partition full on CentOS 6

Now it is working but still requires the kernel update and I am afraid to do it. An admin on Sunday had told me it was because there was not enough space. But I had 10-12 GB of free space at the time. I immediately bought another 60GB but I still have no reason to be sure that was the problem. No later admins agreed with it.

Hello, Could you let us know the output from the "df -h" command on this system? Thank you.
