DNSonly Disk space requirements
Hi
A question that's been asked in past years, that I'll ask again.
Why is the minimum requirement for a BIND server 20GB?
I understand it's the full cPanel install, but this is a lot of space to hold zone files and an OS.
Are there plans to bring this down to a reasonable level? (perhaps when DNSSEC arrives to clustered servers? )

I've got some that have been running for years, stable, running CentOS 6.9 yet and cPanel v66 on tiny 256MB RAM / 25GB VPSs. I think there's a limitation for memory now (that you -can- get around, though no real reason to with todays specs) but just for reference these are currently using under 5GB each. So -- for disk, I think you could get by with just about anything! 0 -
I should mention that I do plan on replacing these, and there are other larger servers in the same cluster, so these aren't critical. But to that end, they've been entirely stable the several years they've been in service. I do have extra services disabled (exim, etc.) to conserve resources. 0 -
Hello, We don't currently provide separate hardware requirements for DNS-Only and full cPanel installations. We provide a single list of requirements at: Installation Guide - System Requirements - Version 68 Documentation - cPanel Documentation One point to consider is that it's possible to convert a DNS-Only server to a full cPanel installation without reinstalling cPanel. That said, you should be fine with 10G on a DNS-Only server if you only plan to host DNS zones. Thank you. 0
