Alert emails when there is no local mail server

How do I configure the alert e-mails[CPHulkd, Tailwatchd etc.] to be sent out when the account configuration is set to Remote Mail Exchanger. I've just checked in the Email > Mail Queue Manager and all the emails from Root user to an external Gmail address(which we intend to use for monitoring alert emails) are either in Queued or Frozen status. I think I am missing something, but not sure what exactly. Edit: The Queued status is due to a limit of 100 emails/hour, however, I fail to see any alert emails in the Gmail account specified in Server Contacts " Edit System Mail Preferences
