Archiving incremental backups

Hello, We like cPanel's self-contained compressed backup archives but I don't think it scales very well, the process can consume a lot of resources and take countless hours to complete. I'm thinking about running incremental backups to a remote server, then having a script on the remote server archive each user's incremental backup directory into a .tar.gz file which can then be transferred to our archive storage. This allows us to have a fast backup process on customer servers, consuming a lot less resources, but retain the packaged backup format for our archived backups. So my question is - would this work in theory? Can we just archive an incremental backup directory for a user and then restore this archive in future using restorepkg? Is anyone else doing this or something similar? Thanks

  Hello, Yes, you can use the tar utility to archive those incremental backup directories into usable .tar.gz archives. There's some discussion of this topic on the following thread: Downloading incremental backups Thank you.
