Hard links between daily/weekly/monthly?
Trying to figure out why remote backups are taking way more space now than the primary local backups when they have the same retention.
I know the system files takes up more room remotely because system_files.tar is a large archive and changes daily (and can't be deduped like it can locally) but that doesn't account for the huge difference I'm seeing.
1.) Is there a difference in hard links between local and remote with the new remote incremental backups?
2.) If I want to reset/restart remote backups, at any point, is there any danger in just deleting all or some of the remote backups? As far as I know, there's nothing special about any individual backup; it's just that if files are already present (in any existing backup) when backups are running a hard link is used.

I should clarify something - I have a hunch that if I do JUST daily backups, dedupe works as expected, but I'm thinking that if I then enable weekly backups, I would be storing a second full backup "set" that was deduped within itself (weekly) but not with the daily backup. The same, probably, for monthly as well? Is this the case? 0 -
Hello, The hard links should exist between daily, weekly, and monthly incremental backups. Thus, the files between those directories should not be duplicated. How are you calculating the disk space usage? There's a thread on this topic at: How do the backups work exactly? Thank you. 0
