No Access to E-mail after transfer with current password
Hello,
I've just moved my server to another one with WHM transfer tool but i'm having
a trouble about mail passwords and login.
Old passwords (which i am exactly sure these are true) won't be accepted by server,
it says "Login Failed" for each email account.
But if i update email password with something else i can login to email account.
What should be problem?

There aren't log file name called backup_restore_manager_log or backup_restore_manager_error_log at the /usr/local/cpanel/logs directory. We can't access neighter webmail nor email desktop client until update their passwords, if i update password of email then it is able to login. 0 -
So if you update the password you can log in OK ...... how about if you then update the password a second time with the original password that previously did not work ? If it will not allow you to use the original password, perhaps the Password Strength Configuration for email on the new server is set differently to the old server ? 0 -
If i update password with old one, login is fine. System just needed put a password and update process for every email address. I'm using old passwords again and again, after update login successfull. 0 -
In that case, I wonder if the problem is being caused by a change in the way that the SQL database on the new server stores the encrypted email password ? When you do a password update, the SQL will take the password and encrypt it with whatever new method it uses, so the password works again, even though the password itself hasn't changed. I remember when I updated my databases to MariaDB, I had to re-generate a lot of passwords to match the new encryption algorithm. If this is the cause of the problem, I would have expected that you should have got some warning about that during/after the transfer process though. 0 -
It is possible, but how can i regonize that problem i don't know. I've checked logs on Review Transfers and Restores section at WHM so everything is fine. No error no warning. Everything is green. But there should be a way to update algorithym if you are correct. I don't think about what is sysadm doing if server has thousands of mail accounts. We cant update one by one. 0 -
Maybe one of the cPanel staff will have a script that will fix your problems. I do see some scripts in /usr/local/cpanel/scripts that may help, but they are not mentioned in WHM Scripts - Version 68 Documentation - cPanel Documentation, and respecting the ...... Warning: Do not use scripts in the /usr/local/cpanel/scripts directory that we do not list in this document. You may damage your server if you run those unlisted scripts.
...... I would not like to recommend anything to you myself. I see, i've opened a ticket to closer look by cpanel staff, by the way thank you for your help. You mean mysql 5 to mariadb or mysql 5.0 to 5.1 but it doesn't fit in my case, i've moved from 5.6.36 to 5.6.38 there isn't minor or major update. its really overkill proces for us. where is cpanel stuff :) 0 -
