cP update and cP backup freezes server

  • Andrew

Your best bet would be a KVM or console access so when you lose access you could see whats going on. maybe a PSU failure?

The cPanel update itself doesn't have anything that would take the server offline, as we never perform any type of automated system restarts.

Since the issue happens at the same time each day, I would second Andrew's suggestion of watching the server in real-time while the issue is happening to see if that gets you any more information.  You may also want to check /var/log/messages to see if there are any general health problems with the machine.

To troubleshoot the freezing issue, you can start by examining the logs you've provided. The snippets you've shared indicate that the updates and backups are reaching certain points before the system freezes. This suggests a potential issue with specific commands or processes being executed during these tasks.

    To delve deeper, you can:

Review other relevant logs: Check system logs (/var/log/messages or /var/log/syslog) for any error messages or warnings around the times of freezing.
Monitor system resources: Keep an eye on CPU, memory, and disk usage during the update and backup processes. High resource usage could be a sign of underlying issues.
Check for disk space: Ensure that your VPS has enough disk space available for the updates and backups to complete successfully.
Consider contacting cPanel support: If the issue persists and you're unable to identify the root cause, reaching out to cPanel support for further assistance may be beneficial.
By systematically analyzing logs and monitoring system behavior, you should be able to pinpoint the cause of the freezing issue and take appropriate action to resolve it.

cPRex Thank you for all your responses, I thought I would leave replying whilst I investigated this further. I am still having the same issue where cPanel and it's associated services all exit at any point during a cP update! Based on your suggestions, I have viewed all the logs and checked available disk space to no resolve. This is really puzzling me. One thought I had was that maybe cPanel was getting blocked by my CSF configuration, does cPanel have a list of external server IP's that it connects to that I should whitelist? If so, if it cannot connect to them, does cPanel then exit? Penny for your thoughts..

No, even if your server couldn't connect nothing would go offline.

It sounds like it's time to make a ticket for this one so we can take a deeper look.

cPRex OK. However, when I try to open a ticket I get a cP support error message (below). Getting hold of my web host takes days, and getting support can take weeks! Is there not a quicker way for me to open a cP ticket direct please?
