Mail node question
I couldn't find this answer in the forums or documentation.
Because of the way the 'mail node' is clustered/proxied off the main WHM/cPanel server, does this mean that if the WHM server goes down (where hosted accounts reside), would the email accounts no longer be accessible as well?
Since WHM is the proxy server, it got me thinking about this question.

Great. We also run DNS-only servers, and it's almost time to refresh the fleet and move mail to cheaper hosting. I know you can't use third-party SPAM and backup programs such as JetBackup to keep email backed up. Tradeoffs unfortuneately.

In theory, it shouldn't. We say this at https://docs.cpanel.net/knowledge-base/general-systems-administration/cpanel-linked-nodes-guide/#distributed-accounts-on-a-linked-mail-child-node
"In most cases, all IMAP, POP3, and SMTP traffic for distributed cPanel accounts goes to the mail child node.
However, if this traffic arrives at the parent node (for example, cached DNS lookups), the parent node will:
- Create proxy IMAP and POP3 connections to the mail child node.
- Reroute SMTP mail delivery to the mail child node."
