Server Backup Taking Longer
Howdy,
I have just switched to a new VPS, doing nightly backups of 7 accounts of about 14 GB to Google Drive.
I was backing up these same accounts to Google Drive on my old VPS.
On the new VPS, the backup time is taking about 33% to 50% longer.
Is there something I can tweak to get this to not take so long? Or is this nothing to worry about? Thanks!

Hey there! It depends on where the slowness is. Can you check the logs and see if the backups are being paused due to server load? You would see entries like this in the backup log in /usr/local/cpanel/logs/cpbackup/ if that were the case:
cpuwatch (Sun Mar 3 02:10:55 2024): System load is currently 1.86; waiting for it to go down below 1.75 to continue …
If it is that, you can adjust the server settings as outlined here:
https://support.cpanel.net/hc/en-us/articles/360049877314-Prevent-slow-backups-due-to-high-load
If it's related to the data transfer speed to the remote destination, there isn't much you can adjust on the server side.

I'm only seeing this with regard to load: "Load watching suspended due to SIGUSR1", "Load watching resumed due to SIGUSR2".
My new VPS is in the same data center as my old one, so I don't know why transfer speed would be different.
Anyway, looks like just another mystery that will go unsolved. Thanks!
