Backup Restoration Dates missing for successful backups
We backup our sites with WHM to our own SFTP server in the 'Additional Destinations' tab of the Backup Configuration, and I'm sure this used to work fine with restorations, but none of the successful backups are showing in the Available Backup Dates for restoration.
Did something change so that WHM now only shows local backups for restoration? If so, why?

Hey there! It is my understanding that the remote restore option has only been available when using FTP as the remote destination setting. SFTP wouldn't allow that option. More details on how you can perform that restore can be found here:

Thanks for the response. Yes, the remote restore only works with FTP and not SFTP. The documentation on this is all over the place and took a while to sort through. In order to restore from these remote backups, you have to jump through a ton of hoops (copying the backups to a specific directory) plus you have to enable local backups, chewing up disk space.
Pathetic and poor implementation by cPanel with convoluted documentation. For a licensed and paid product, I do expect better. There’s no good reason I can think of for not supporting remote restores using SFTP.
