Manual restore backup problem
Hi all,
I apologize for the long query, but I have some ambiguities about restoring the backup. I'm having some weird things happen to me that didn't happen before, and they're happening differently on the two hosting providers. I hope you can clarify them for me.
It's a little harder to describe, so if it's not clear, please let me know.
I tested the manual restore of the backup taken from the Backup Wizard and the automatic one that is created daily. I restored by downloading a backup of the home directory and the database, and then restoring them by deleting everything in the public_html folder and loading the zipped backup of the public_html folder and unpacking it, and the database by deleting all the tables from the existing database through phpMyAdmin and then importing the backup via import options.
Some time ago, I tried it and I concluded that restoring the folder in the File manager did not correct the page (all changes were still on it), but plugins and other things, and then after restoring the database, everything returned to normal. I don't know if I'm right that after the base the changes are returned only?
But now it doesn't work for me anymore.
- Now, after restoring the public_html folder, some changes are made on the page, some pages are disturbed... after that, I restore the database and it is fixed.
- And when I first restore the database, nothing is corrected, and also after I restore the folder... and then everything is still disturbed until I delete the history of the browser, which also makes no sense to me.
-After everything, I try to restore the backup again in the first way after some changes again, and then even with the backup recovery it goes back to those changes that I did before testing the first or second time instead of a clean backup. And I always restored the same clean backup.
On another hosting provider, it's the other way around, it's fine when I restore the base first and then public_html, and when I try to restore public_html first and then the base, I have to repeat restoring public_html.
I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong and why everything was ok before, but I'm doing all the simple logical things?
Is there any logic that the browser history should be deleted after restoring the backup, because the visitors will not think of it :)
Best regards

Hey there! It's always possible there is caching happening somewhere - on the server if they use nginx, by your ISP, on the device or browser, so it's hard to say.
The best way to confirm would be to check the actual files on the account after the restore and ensure they have been replaced with the correct version. If that has happened, you can then move on to clearing cache at various locations.

Hi,
Thanks for the info.
I did some more tests a little further and noticed that the cache plugins are causing the problem. I'm using WP Super Cache. After I restore the backup, there is no effect until I clear the cache in the plugin. Is it normal practice, after restoring the backup on cPanel, to clear the cache within the application?
I also noticed that if the database is restored first and then public_html there is not such a problem?0 -
cPanel wouldn't have any control over caching plugins - the data that goes with those plugins is also being restored, leading to the issue you're seeing.
I suppose it's possible if things are restored in a different order that the plugin data could be cleared, but that isn't something we'll be changing our restore process for on our end.
