www.sub.domain.com not working
Dear Sir / Madam
Our company website (domain.com) is live and working fine. A subdomain (sub.domain.com) is also created but it is configured to point to a different IP address, say IP2 (compared to domain.com say IP1) using A record.
Then the below are working fine:
2. http://sub.domain.com (getting redirected to 1 and showing content)
The below are not working :
3. https://www.sub.domain.com
The error received is :
This site can’t be reached
Check if there is a typo in www.sub.domain.com.
DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NXDOMAIN
I read some articles in the forum and tried the below
A. Created a redirection for sites 3 & 4 (www ones) to site 1 using domains. It didnt work. The address bar still shows the respective websites and not the redirected website
B. Added a code in .htaccess file of public/sub folder . no change in error. The address bar still shows the respective websites and not the redirected website
C. Created a new A record for www.sub.domain.com pointing to IP2. No change in error. site 1 is not displayed when accessing site 3 & 4
D. Tried adding CNAME for www.sub.domain.com as sub.domain.com. But the record wouldnt save (like it did for www.domain.com and domain.com).
Please guide me on how to resolve this issue as some users of sub.domain.com are entering www.sub.domain.com and complaining that the website is not working

Hey there! Do you *want* www.sub.domain.com to be working? Most websites don't add the www to the subdomain as it just makes the URL longer.
If you do want this functionality, are you able to get a response when you look up the subdomain from a different server? For example, on a different machine than your webserver, can you run:
dig www.sub.domain.com
and get a reply with an IP address? If not, that would point to a DNS issue.

Hi, Thank you for your reply.
We are getting complaints from users that the site is not working. Upon cross checking it is found that sometimes browsers are taking them to sites 3 or 4 instead of sites 1 or 2. So we want to redirect the sites 3 and 4 to site 1.
Seems like a DNS issue. I was able to get a IP address reply for sub.domain.com But couldnt get a reply for www.sub.domain.com. What might have gone wrong? How to correct it? Kindly help.

If the DNS isn't replying, that's a problem outside of cPanel with the DNS configuration. You'd need to ensure that www record gets added to wherever the nameservers are hosted.

OK. Thank you for clarifying.
In this case, then i think the person who put the A record in place for sub.domain.com can rectify the issue. Will get in touch with them again. Thank you once again.
