Issues with SMTP and Outlook after moving to Cloudflare
Good day.
I am using a cpanel VPS server and the email works great on it and I have it connected to outlook and no issues. The recommended server setting by cpanel is mail.mydomain.com. I have this set up on outlook and all is great with the world.
When switching over to Cloudflare, the MX shows:
MX (name) mydomain.com (content) mydomain.com
Exactly what cpanel shows if looking at mx records in the dns screen. I tried this and then outlook comes back with a stmp cannot connect to server. I also tried:
mail.mydomain.com inside Cloudflare MX settings and still same issue. The only way outlook will work is if I use the server hostname itself in the MX setting server.example.com and then I also have to change this in Outlook. All works but apparantly I should not have to change any email settings in outlook and if I switch over several clients websites and email, they will also need to change setting in outlook and wont be happy.
I have the email dns set to DNS only with Cloudflare and for the love of God, cannot find any help with this even with Cloudflares forum. That is why I chose to post here as IU am sure someone with C panel ran across this issue.
Thanks so much in advance as always.
Steve

Make sure that you have proxying (the orange cloud) turned off for the MX record and the mail.XXX.YYY record. Things just won't work correctly if it's turned on for mail.

Ya, I turned them off for sure the only thing that is proxying is the A Record for server and the cname for www.

I turned off Proxy for all except for cname www and A record for domain. Please see attached as email is now working using mail.example.com as what is set with cpanel and also cloudflare.

It would be best to contact Cloudflare support about this issue, since everything works normally when not using their service.
